Social Media & Public Communications Policy
Organization: Professional Animal Retirement Center (PARC), Inc. / Black Pine Animal Sanctuary
I. Purpose and Scope
Professional Animal Retirement Center (PARC), Inc. (hereafter "Black Pine Animal Sanctuary") recognizes the significant impact of digital media on public perception and organizational reputation. This policy establishes a framework for employees, interns, and volunteers to engage with social media in a manner that advances our mission, protects the welfare of our residents, and maintains the integrity of the Black Pine Animal Sanctuary brand.
II. Authorized Representation
Official representation of Black Pine Animal Sanctuary on digital platforms is restricted to the Executive Director or their formal designees.
Official Spokespersons: Only authorized personnel may post, comment, or issue statements on behalf of the organization.
Core Advocacy Pillars: All official communications must reflect Black Pine Animal Sanctuary's commitment to the following principles:
The right of captive exotic animals to exist free from exploitation, cruelty, and neglect.
The provision of species-specific nutrition, shelter, and veterinary care.
The maintenance of environments that respect the natural biological rhythms of each species.
The restriction of breeding to bona fide conservation programs that prioritize genetic integrity.
Strict adherence to all local, national, and international regulatory standards.
III. Prohibited Content and Conduct
To mitigate liability and prevent the spread of misinformation, the following are strictly prohibited:
Unauthorized Representation: Issuing statements as a spokesperson without explicit directorial approval.
Unprofessional Discourse: Use of profanity, inflammatory language, personal attacks, or presenting subjective opinions as organizational facts.
Sensitive Imagery: Distribution of images featuring deceased animals, residents in terminal decline, or animals used as forage/feed.
Safety & Compliance Violations: Depictions of direct contact with dangerous animals, "horseplay," or any behavior that violates established safety protocols.
Distress & Exploitation: Visuals of animals in states of distress, fear, or agitation.
IV. Professional Guidelines for Personnel
When engaging in personal social media use, personnel should adhere to the following standards:
Disclaimers: Avoid language that implies organizational endorsement (e.g., "On behalf of Black Pine Animal Sanctuary..."). Clearly distinguish personal views by using "in my opinion" where appropriate.
Fact-Based Engagement: Cite reputable sources when sharing data. Avoid linking to controversial or non-credible entities.
Contextual Clarity: Ensure all shared media includes captions explaining safety measures. If a visual cannot be framed to clearly demonstrate safe practices, it should not be published.
Professionalism: Adopt a "Seek first to understand" approach. Maintain transparency and accountability; if an error occurs, rectify it promptly and professionally.
Public Scrutiny Test: Personnel should not publish content they would be uncomfortable defending before the Board of Directors or the media.
V. Compliance and Enforcement
Adherence to this policy is a condition of employment and volunteerism. Content found to be in violation of these standards must be removed immediately upon request. Violations may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment or permanent revocation of volunteer privileges.
